Jenna Yost was a student in our Spring Social Media Magnet class at Belmont University. Jenna chose the topic of college fashion because she had many friends attending many different universities around the country. She wanted to compare fashion trends at these universities. She interviewed those friends about trendy topics and in-style fashion while posting pictures of their outfits in her blog posts. She had a very successful Instagram campaign where she displayed the trends and then drove the traffic back to her practicum website where the interview would discuss the ensemble. With each new interview being from a different university, she would highlight the university in college showcase post encouraging female students from each university to share the Instagram pics and blog highlights. Jenna also had a very appealing brand logo and aesthetic presentation to her campaign called Live Peachy Keen.
When considering her strengths and future opportunities, she writes, “For Live Peachy Keen, I would consider one of my strengths to be my knowledge of fashion at different colleges. I have friends that go to so many different colleges, so it’s not difficult to find information to write about. Secondly, the aesthetic of Peachy Keen is really appealing. Many people name this as to why they follow the blog. Especially on Instagram, the aesthetic is everything. People follow pages solely for aesthetic inspiration. Also, the audience for this information is easy for me to understand, since the target audience is very similar to me. Another strength is that Fashion is constantly changing, so it would be tough to completely run out of information to write about. Not only that, seasons are always changing and with that comes different fashion. So, Live Peachy Keen could continue to spit out content forever.
My main opportunity has been having friends at other colleges. Most of my friends have gone to different schools, so this gives me access to different circles. I’ve noticed that when I reach out to different colleges, my numbers and pageviews spike up. Another potential opportunity is joining Facebook Groups to gain support and community around Live Peachy Keen. I am very lacking in Facebook experience, so it has been a learning curve to understand how Facebook works and what’s normal on that platform. But, I have found that there are a lot of fashion blog groups and if I connect with them and join the groups, I potentially could get more support for Live Peachy Keen.”
When reflecting on the course, Jenna claims, “The Social Media Magnet is a great way to master the social media world. It is extremely hands-on. You apply the concepts that are talked about in class directly to your personal campaign. It’s nice to learn about something so practical for today’s world.”
